High School Daily Announcements 4/25
• CTE Courses (Machining, Product Design/Engineering, Health Occupations, Careers in Education, Construction, Automotive, Welding) at the ISD: Students interested in taking a CTE course next year, who didn't apply during the first round of applications, there are still some seats available. Students who will be in grades 10-12 next year can still apply. Pick up an application in Student Services and return it by the end of day on Tuesday, April 30. Please note: Construction is full for grades 11/12. Speak to Ms. Waller if you have any questions.
• Seniors: If you have not turned in a senior photo for the yearbook yet, the final deadline is tomorrow by 2:30. After that time you will not have a photo in the yearbook. Please drop off or email photos to Mrs. Drebenstedt (ldrebenstedt@eskymos.com).
• Batawagama Band Camp will take place June 16-22 at Indian Lake. Stop in either of the main offices for more information, or visit www.campbatawagama.com.
• 11th grade boys: The Michigan Boys State program is a leadership and scholarship program for rising high school junior boys. The program focuses on the organization of Michigan's town and state government. The 2024 session will take place June 23 – 29 on the campus of Grand Valley State University. • Any students interested in becoming a MoBuddy mentor for the 2024-25 school year, please sign up in Student Services.
• Are you a high school student who wants to learn more about electrical and computer engineering this summer? The Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Michigan is hosting non-residential camps this summer for students. Go to electrify.engin.umich.edu for more information. There is a poster by Student Services with camp dates and topics.
• Students interested in dance, musical theater, or design and production: NMU has their summer institutes posted. These are week-long camps. For more information visit: https://nmu.edu/theatreanddance/wildcat-performing-arts-academy.
• Make-up time has begun and will take place Monday through Thursday each week from 2:30 to 3:30; Monday and Wednesday in Mrs. Drebenstedt’s room (F628), and Tuesday and Thursday in Ms. Mineau’s room (B202). Students must be on time and sign in to be counted for make-up time. Students who have an unexcused absence or two tardies during a day may not take part in make-up time that day. Cell phone use is not permitted. Students who are disruptive will be asked to leave and will not receive credit for the time spent that day.
• 6-12 grades: Looking for some summer fun? Summer bowling league is starting May 16. It will run until the end of July, with the week of July 4th off. Teams can bowl ahead if there are plan conflicts. For more information, contact the Bowl-a-Rama.
11th grade girls: The American Legion Auxiliary, Michigan Girls State program will be held from June 23 - 29 on the campus of Michigan State University. Organizers are looking for 11th grade girls to take part in this event, which gives firsthand experience and insight into how your state government and judicial system works. Two scholarships are available to U.P. students. See the flier posted outside of the High School main office or Student Services for more information and a link for the online registration process.
• 6-11 grades: Michigan Tech has summer options available for youth programs. Students can sign up for hands-on exploration in a variety of programs. Housing is included in the cost. More information is available in Student Services or by going to mtu.edu/syp for their program guide.

• Students interested in earning their CDL while in high school: Bianco Trucking Services, LLC has designed a program to allow adults/students an opportunity to earn their CDL without missing classes during the school day. After school sessions will be offered starting April 1 and Sept. 2. This is to earn a Class A CDL and will cover classroom instruction, range training, and road training. Total cost is $4,760 which includes the CLP, DOT Physical, Drug Screen, 1 State Skills Test Fee, and books/materials. • Seniors: Heather Rathbun is an amateur photographer who is offering Escanaba class of 2024 seniors free photo sessions for families who can’t afford to hire a professional photographer. She is doing this for fun and out of the kindness of her heart. If you are interested, please come to the high school main office for contact information.
• 9-12th grade students: Don't forget to order your yearbook! There's a link at the bottom of our school website that will take you directly to our order form.
College/Scholarship Information
• Seniors: The Country Visions Cooperative has released applications for their scholarships. This is for students of families who are members of the Country Visions Cooperative or CP Feeds, LLC and have purchased at least $2,000 worth of goods and services in the year prior to the application. Application forms are available in Student Services.
• Seniors: Studying to be a nurse in the fall and accepted into a nursing program? The Nurse Corps Scholarship Program has their applications out for fall college. This program provides extensive financial support. Graduates agree to be employed for a minimum of a 2-year commitment at an approved Critical Shortage Facility upon graduation. To apply visit: bhw.hrsa.gov/funding/apply-scholarship/nurse-corps. An informational sheet is also posted outside of Student Services.
• The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Scholarship is now available for females planning to attend a four year college and pursue education. The deadline is April 30. Applications are in Student Services.
