College/Scholarship Information

Senior students who applied to college, filled out the FAFSA, and are waiting for their financial aid award letter, please be aware: Award letters will NOT be going out until April sometime from colleges. This letter breaks down the cost to attend a college and what financial assistance the college is willing to offer. This would include grants, scholarships, loans, and UNMET need amounts. Colleges will not be receiving your FAFSA information until March sometime. This may greatly affect your FAFSA if you need to edit your answers. This also means that the final decision and commitment window in choosing your college for the fall is narrower. As we receive updates, we will let you know.

• Seniors: The Country Visions Cooperative has released applications for their scholarships. This is for students of families who are members of the Country Visions Cooperative or CP Feeds, LLC and have purchased at least $2,000 worth of goods and services in the year prior to the application. Application forms are available in Student Services.

• Seniors: Studying to be a nurse in the fall and accepted into a nursing program? The Nurse Corps Scholarship Program has their applications out for fall college. This program provides extensive financial support. Graduates agree to be employed for a minimum of a 2-year commitment at an approved Critical Shortage Facility upon graduation. To apply visit: bhw.hrsa.gov/funding/apply-scholarship/nurse-corps. An informational sheet is also posted outside of Student Services.

• Seniors: Embers Credit Union has their applications open for six $1,000 scholarships. Visit https://www.embers.org/scholarship for more information.

• The Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Scholarship is now available for females planning to attend a four year college and pursue education. The deadline is April 30. Applications are in Student Services.

Junior and Seniors: Do you know what TIP is or whether you qualify? TIP is the Tuition Incentive Program that some students qualify for if they were on Medicaid for at least 24 out of 36 months between the ages of 9 and graduation. TIP helps cover tuition at colleges across Michigan. To see if you qualify go to the MiSSG Student Portal at michigan.gov/missg or call 1-888-447-2687 for more information. There is a poster outside Student Services with more information.

• Seniors: The Michigan Achievement Scholarship (replacing the Michigan Competitive Scholarship) is for students who enroll in a Michigan place of further education. This includes career centers, community colleges, and universities. Students who have a family contribution of less than $25,000 and have filled out the FAFSA will qualify. Watch for more information as FAFSA filing time gets closer (around December).
